Flash mobile is dead

Adobe menghentikan pengembangan Flash Player untuk perangkat mobile (mobile flash player), dan memilih untuk fokus kepada pengembangan aplikasi berbasis Adobe AIR dan HTML5.

Adobe melalui ZDNet:

Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.

Masih ingat dengan yang dikatakan Steve Jobs?:

New open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too). Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind.

Dear Adobe, akuilah kalau yang dikatakan Steve Jobs itu benar. Berhentilah mengkritik Apple, fokus saja ke HTML5.

John Gruber:

Apple didn’t win. Everybody won. Flash hasn’t been superseded in mobile by any sort of Apple technology. It’s been superseded by truly open web technologies. Dumping Flash will make Android better, it will make BlackBerrys better, it will make the entire web better. iOS users have been benefitting from this ever since day one, in June 2007.

Apple menang, sejak tahun 2007.
