Acaranya diselenggarakan pada tanggal 1 Juni, bertempat di Gedung Graha Pena lantai 4 Makassar.

TL;DR

Sebuah iPod touch 3G (keluaran tahun 2009) yang masa garansinya sudah lama habis, diberikan kepada anak 9 tahun.

iPod touch tersebut terkunci selama lebih dari 40 tahun gara-gara passcode yang dimasukkan salah, yang kemungkinan akibat salah pencet oleh salah seorang adiknya (kembar, 4 tahun).

Sang pemilik (editor CNET), gagal membuat iPod touchnya masuk ke DFU mode, dan memutuskan untuk membawanya ke Apple Store.

Seorang Genius mencoba 10 kali untuk membuatnya masuk ke DFU mode, tapi gagal.

WinterBoard untuk Android

Pengguna iDevice yang suka memodifikasi tampilan homescreen pasti sudah kenal dengan WinterBoard. Ya, aplikasi yang (dulunya) hanya tersedia di Cydia untuk perangkat yang telah dijailbreak ini berfungsi sebagai “theme engine” yang dapat mengubah tema serta elemen-elemen GUI pada SpringBoard (homescreen) seperti wallpaper, ikon, statusbar, dock, dan lainnya.

One more cross-platform messaging app

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) akan segera tersedia untuk iOS dan Android. That’s some pretty big news, indeed.

Saya tidak yakin bagaimana langkah ini bisa menguntungkan bagi Blackberry, jika dilihat dari pendekatan Google selama ini dalam menjaring pengguna iOS, terkadang merilis produk ke platform saingan justru akan membuat mereka semakin betah. Alih-alih membeli smartphone Blackberry, BBM justru membuat pengguna iOS semakin nyaman pakai iPhone. Jumlah pengguna aktif BBM mungkin meningkat, tapi bagaimana dengan perangkatnya sendiri?

Samsung is hurting Android; wants to be like Apple

Seperti yang sudah pernah terjadi sebelumnya dengan Flipboard, Samsung kembali mendapatkan keeksklusifan untuk aplikasi ITV Player; aplikasi Android yang tidak kompatible dengan smartphone Android, kecuali Android milik Samsung.

Was this a one-off move that Samsung doesn’t intend to repeat elsewhere? Don’t be silly. Will such moves cause even greater fragmentation of Android? Absolutely. Will it damage Android? Absolutely. Not only has the deal put the platform’s fragmentation again in the headlines, but now it is also headline news that its key apps can be bought up to make this even worse. Everyone hurts except for Samsung, and Google hurts most of all.

Konsep iOS 7, lagi

Lagi-lagi konsep iOS 7. Lagi-lagi “semi-Modern UI”.

Beberapa bulan terakhir ini saya mengamati kalau para desainer sedang bersemangat merilis konsep/mockup dari iOS 7, versi yang menurut kita semua akan membawa perubahan besar terhadap iOS.

Tapi, rupanya “perubahan besar” itu oleh sebagian orang diterjemahkan sebagai “semi-Modern UI” (istilah dibuat-buat). Dan salah satu pendukung konsep-konsep seperti ini adalah munculnya dari rumor “orang yang familiar dengan situasi ini” bahwa iOS 7 akan memiliki desain “flat”.

"Widgets aren’t widely used"

After releasing Sense 4 last year, I challenged the team to step back and take a fresh look at the overall customer experience. We interviewed customers for their personal feedback and we became students of human behavior, taking more time than ever to observe how people use their phones today.

During our research, a few consistent patterns emerged:

  • Most people don’t differentiate between apps and widgets.
  • Widgets aren’t widely used – weather, clock and music are the most used and after that, fewer than 10% of customers use any other widgets.
  • Most of you don’t modify your home screens much. In fact, after the first month of use, approximately 80% of you don’t change your home screens any more.

"Some things I saw in iOS 7 (6 mo ago)"

Percaya tidak percaya sih, tapi saya suka dengan “konsep” iOS 7 yang disebutkan oleh salah satu member Designer News ini:

  • There’s no more double-click home to view running apps, inside running apps is a special slide over panel BEFORE the search panel… so double tap slides over to a different panel with full screen access to running apps, volume… they also put in some common settings like bluetooth, but that has been moved out now… (no more TAP and hold to kill apps, just swipe!)
  • The OS uses a lot more of card navigation… it’s mostly HUGE under the hood changes, to the way you navigate and interact… TOP navbar 100% gone, become transparent in some apps, but mainly totally removed in apps I saw…
  • lots of gloss was removed, but the UI was in flux, with different components not matching at the time so I can’t tell you what the exact style will be…
  • Siri was overhauled
  • different kinds of keyboards
  • revampted in per app settings
  • completely changed messenger…
  • Allowing of sharing files between users on the phone (like a FaceTime button but i send you a pdf over the phone)
  • lock screen that allows you to unlock by dragging to points on a photo [cross-licensed from MS] (or I’m told fingerprint), and if that’s the case they may remove photo unlock, so people will buy iPhone 5s
  • Notifications are revamped
  • real access to file system, and sending data to any iPhone with a few feat of you (works on current iPhone, so it wasn’t a hardware thing)
  • Hugely revamped text editing… circle loop was changed to a cleaner block inline, instant without delay on paste/copy controls which looked less like a popup and more like an above your text block

“Card” memang memberikan kesan flat, seperti yang ditampilkan pada beberapa aplikasi-aplikasi populer seperti Facebook, Twitter, Google+ dan lainnya. Dan “lots of gloss was removed” membuktikan bahwa identitas asli iOS akan tetap dipertahankan, rounded corner, dan semacamnya. Yang pasti, Anda tidak akan membeli iPhone 5S dengan “Modern UI” di dalamnya.

Flat? No, it’s almost flat.
